It’s amazing to me how much misinformation about the topic of music volume at various events I run into.
As an example, I was hired to provide sound for an annual dance contest in my area. The main areas where the competitions occurred was two gymnasiums at a high school. One was the main, newer, and much larger gym and the other an older, smaller gym. Rehearsals were generally happening all day in the smaller gym. The music the solo and group dancers used for rehearsals were amplified through a small, portable suitcase-sized pa system and the volume was set to the loudest setting – in other words, it was CRANKED UP ALL THE WAY!
